The Fanny Pack

The fanny pack has been in and out of style for a couple of decades now. When I was young, I remember thinking I would never be caught dead wearing one, back when they only came in neon brights. But the past few years, with help from some stylish friends (Yel), I have come to appreciate them for their functionalism as well as looking adorable with almost any outfit. Fanny's were seen in many runway shows this past spring, such as Hermes and Pucci, and they have even continued on into the fall runways as well. Below are a few examples of the common day Fanny.

What to Wear, Where

Hillary Kerr and Katherine Powers have done it again! This stylish duo, creators of the infamous style blog 'Who What Wear' have created another book. The first book, called 'Who What Wear: Celebrity and Runway Style for real life' was a major success, and still one of my favorites to look through when I'm in need of some inspiration. I can't wait to buy their new book, released just a few days ago it is titled 'What to Wear, Where: The how-to handbook for any style situation', I'm sure it will be just as amazing, if not more! Go buy now!

Half Moon Manicure

This look has been seen on the Spring 2011 runway and on Celebs such as Dita Von Tease and Megan Fox. I decided to try it out, it took about a half an hour to get right but I think it turned out okay in the end. I suggest giving it a try, it looks really cool and works with basically any color combo.

These are the three polishes I used to create my own half moon. Left to Right, Sephora by OPI in Queen of Everything, OPI in Give Me Moor, and Sephora by OPI Top Coat.

    Valentine's Day Outfits

The following are my day and night outfits for February 14th 2011! For Day I went for a simple white raglan top tucked into my favorite high waisted sailor jeans, with a silver tribal necklace from F21 and red booties from gojane.com for fun. Also a Black felt hat, because it's BC so of course it was raining. For Night I went out for dinner and to see a play with the BF, the theme I went for was Burlesque. I chose a pink lace dress from H&M, with lingerie inspired boning. I paired the dress with adorable garter tights from House of Holland and deep-v heels, my Valentine's Day gift, from Nine West. Over top I threw on a black blazer for warmth and a faux fur collared coat. I grabbed a gray snake print clutch and made my last minute jewelery decision of a vintage jeweled ring and keeping with my theme, black feathered earrings from Aldo.
     Hope you like!

    Flared Jeans

Flared Jeans were shown in many different runway shows this past spring, notably Derek Lam, Pucci and Thakoon. Channeling 70s style, I decided to give them a try. Usually I am a lover of the skinny jeans, but I went for it and purchased a pair of dark denim with a high waist, and very large bell bottom. I wasn't expecting to be in love with this particular look but to my surprise, they looked great. The length is a bit long on me but with the proper heel, they'll work out. I definitely urge everyone to give this style a try, as they make your legs look unbelievably long and with a high waist, you'll never look thinner. Try them out with a tucked in blouse a la Derek Lam, or with a lighter denim shirt for a jean on jean look.

How to wear socks with sandals

The idea of socks and sandals was brought to my attention in the spring/summer runway shows of 2010. At first the idea seemed a little odd, considering I have teased my dad for wearing this “look” for the past 20 years; but after reviewing runway shows such as Marni, Burberry, Alexander Wang and Dolce & Gabbana, I quickly changed my mind. The socks and sandals trend has been a constant for the past four seasons and in my opinion is still just as hot. I do however feel that there are a few rules to abide by when choosing this combo, such as colour choices. The look is great when the socks and sandals or heels are within the same colour category, such as Beige socks and Beige shoes. The colours can be slightly different but it usually looks better when the socks are the exact same colour, or slightly lighter than the shoes. An exception to this rule is black and white. These two “colours” look great together, whether it be white socks and black shoes or vice versa, though the latter can sometimes look a bit weird if worn improperly. This spring there are a lot of bright colours worn all together, this look can be great in clothing but when it comes to socks and sandals in bright hues, I would personally stray away from wearing two different bright colours together, as to avoid looking like I’m from a bad 80’s movie. As discussed above however, bright colours can be worn if in the same shade.
I hope this information helps in your decision to wear socks and sandals, even if it’s not your favourite trend, at least your feet will be warm.
